What We Do

The Arts Center of the Capital Region

What we do:
The Arts Center of the Capital Region is a regional visual, literary, and performing arts center that enriches the lives of more than 60,000 people a year through classes, exhibits, workshops, and performances. Since 1962, our mission has been “to engage individuals in the making and experiencing of the arts.”

The Center’s portfolio of programs includes: visual, culinary, literary, and performing arts classes for adults and children; vacation arts camps for kids and teens; performances, events, and readings; contemporary art exhibits; professional development and services for artists; administration of two multi-county grant programs for artists and organizations; and outreach and collaboration with local schools, museums, and community organizations.

Located in 5 adjoining 19th-century buildings on 265 River Street in downtown Troy, our 36,000 square foot, fully-accessible space includes state-of-the-art, discipline-specific studios for pottery, print-making, culinary arts, jewelry-making, woodworking, painting and drawing, stained glass, and dance. We also have a 99-seat theater for performing arts events and three galleries.

Volunteers:
Volunteers are essential to The Arts Center’s programs.  Join our wonderful community of supporters by donating your time to our gallery, events, mailings, camps and facility.  You’ll find like-minded friends and opportunities to be involved in the Arts Center’s exciting offerings. • Mailings – The Arts Center puts out exhibit postcards, class catalogs, and membership renewals on a regular basis.  Reaching our audience is very important to us, and volunteer help is essential!
  • Catalog Distribution – Do you live, work, shop, worship or go to school somewhere where folks might like our catalogs?  We’re always looking for help spreading the word about what we do.  Take a stack of catalogs to give to friends of leave at the places you frequent. .
